age Quarter Plagued by Overgrown Pests?
Rumours are currently flying that the Mage's District in Stormwind is
suffering an infestation of alien wildlife. Several reports from
shopkeepers and vendors in the quarter are reporting large insects
inside their property. A Herald photographer was able to capture an
image of a spider larger than a cartwheel scuttling out of a well in
the area. Almost every business and private residence in the north side
of the district is reporting these larger-than-normal insects, though
thus far at least it seems as though there have been no injuries
relating to these creatures taking up residence in the vicinity.
Currently
the City Guard is seemingly ignoring these tales, and as yet there are
no plans to see how many of these creatures are hiding in ether the
water or sewer pipes in Stormwind. The Mage Quarter is no stranger to
tales of large creatures, as the Alliance Herald has in the past made
connections between disposal of magical waste in the canals and the
so-called 'Sewer Beasts'; abandoned crocolisks that have grown to
unusual sizes. While disposal of magical waste is now tightly
controlled, this invasion of scuttling horrors is unlikely to simply go
away, nor is the rising risk that eventually someone may get hurt by
these overgrown invaders.
Crackdown on Republican Rag!
The authorities in Stormwind brought down the hammer on reckless
publishing in the capitol last week when members of the City Guard,
accompanied by Alderwoman Maryanne Weston, arrested a citizen for
distributing a pamphlet that could be considered seditious.
The
publication, called The Torch, describes itself as a ‘beacon of truth
in dark times’. While events leading to the arrest are sketchy at best,
it seems that the Guard cornered the distributor in the streets of Old
Town a stone’s throw from the Pig & Whistle tavern. Examination of
the newsletter, which was specifically dealing with the recent civil
unrest in Stormwind, led to Lady Weston demanding the man was brought
in for questioning. Apparently he was later released, as an elven
gentleman corresponding to a description of the vendor was later seen
in the city, though was no longer distributing copies of The Torch.
While
the assumption that the publisher was released unharmed indicates that
the type of response we saw almost two years ago now when numerous
businesses were closed down during the horrific scenes surrounding ‘Red
Sunday’ are things of the past, the arrest of this vendor marks a new
alertness to enemies within. The current spate of demonstrations and
protests around the city, either denouncing the actions of King Wrynn
or supposed heavy-handedness by the military against civilian
dissenters, are also of obvious concern. There are firm beliefs that
such expressions of dissatisfaction are actually the work of rebellious
groups seeking to depose the Noble Council and the Crown itself. The
dissolved Republican movement, responsible for some of the worse
excesses of the riots that preceded the dissolution of the original
Alliance Herald, have also been implicated in the protests, and rumours
are circulating that known Republicans are being observed by members of
SI 7.
The whereabouts of the arrested vendor and those indeed
responsible for the publication of The Torch are currently unknown.
However it would seem that the authorities are fortunately casting a
much more careful eye over the men of letters of Stormwind.
