House of Nobles and Minister of Finance Lord Boldarin Steelthorn have
approved of a 10 percent tax raise to fund a 40 percent raise in the
naval budget. Admiral Eldarian Silverheart confirmed this to our
correspondant.
The Admiral states the need for money comes as a
result of substantial damage following sabotage attacks upon the navy.
Furthermore money is needed to found the building of the new flagship.
The flagship is under construction in the Stormwind Harbour, a project
governed by the Azerothian Labour. The Admiral further confirmed that
no other other alternatives to a tax raise were placed before the House
of Nobles or discussed.
A woman was spotted handing out the
pamphlets on the 7Th of July but there may be several individuals
involved. Anyone receiving such a pamphlet is advised to throw it away
and report the incident to a City Guard as soon as possible. It is
believed the goal of such malicious attacks upon our city official is
to cause civil unrest or even possibly an uprising.
Admiral Eldarian had this to say upon the matter:
"I think it's rubbish, the House of Nobles benefit us all"
Two weeks ago, several unidentified ships attacked merchantmen from Menethil Harbour to Steamwheedle Port. Escort frigates from the 1st Company of the Theramore Marines engaged the attackers, managing to divert the pirates' attention, allowing the trade vessels to escape. The Marine frigates, the Intrepid and the Duchess, came under heavy fire from the enemy. The Intrepid in particular recieved several direct hits and began to take on water rapidly. Smelling blood, the pirates concentrated their cannon-fire on the frigate; before long the Intrepid's gunpowder reserves caught flame, causing a catastrophic explosion that tore the frigate apart, at the loss of fifty Marines.
Outnumbered and overwhelmed, the Duchess was dead in the water. The enemy boarded the Marine frigate, and a grim hand-to-hand fight between the crews began. Twenty Marines were taken prisoner, whilst some escaped to tell of their struggle.
Commodore Coragon Havencrest of the 2nd Company stated, "We haven't been able to identify who these pirates are, but it is clear they are highly skilled and well supported."
Although hit hard by this vicious attack, the Theramore Marines will be increasing their patrols of the open sea in an attempt to bring these villains to justice.
On the evening of the 9Th of July an incident in the Cathedral of Light allmost resulted in poisonous gas making its way out into the city. It was supposedly an assassination attempt gone wrong that caused the release of the poison deep down in the catacombs. The assassin released the gas as a mean of escaping after the attempted murder. Whether or not the assassin made it out of the catacombs himself however is unclear. There is no witness sightings of him leaving the Cathedral through the upper floors. Neither was any bodies found after the gas was cleared during the 10Th of July, so it is suspected he may have escaped through the labyrinths and tunnels below Stormwind.
The target for the assassination was a Sir Douglas Miro and the Orphan Matron of Stormwind Twill. The Stormwind City guard confirmed this but could not give any information as to motive or suspects. However the description of the assassin leaves reason the belief there may be a link to the defias. He is described to be a man of average height, wearing black clothes, two daggers and a red mask which is commonly associated with the defias gangs.
To contain the gas Knight-Commander Lucien of the Silver Hand placed a blessing in the floor of the stairway to the lower levels to cleanse and shield against the poisonous gas. There is no reports of any victims and during the day of the 10Th the gas was cleansed by members of the clergy. City Guard officials deem the area to be safe and open to the public once again.
This was the second assasination attempt in one night, earlier on the same evning Patricia Ranston, assistant to Magistrate Ayris was brought to the Cathedral after being poisoned by a letter she was opening on behalf of the magistrate. The condition of the assistant is still unclear.
On the late evening of May 29th, a distressed yell emitted from the Cathedral Square as a gathering had made its accordance. From our sources we learn that that Adreko Demodred, former Alderman, had been stabbed and killed by a gang of black-clad, Defias-like ruffians, determined to be a group known as "The Rose". They carried basic scimitars, and when they made their escape they are reported to have disappeared in a cascade of roses.
Adreko Demodred served the Kingdom of Stormwind as Alderman of the House of Nobles from May 33LC to late November of that same year, succeeding the controversial Lord Fralow McBride. His known accomplishments were assisting in the defence of the city on many occasions, and was well trusted and liked by his peers, though his actions as Alderman during Lady Alduval's attempted coup were criticised by the press of the time.
