Sunday the 7th of March, Darkshire was assaulted by what is believed to be a
Horde warband who had made their way from their outposts in the jungle of
Stranglethorn. The raid left several dead and wounded, along with losses of
trade goods and supplies. As soon as news reached head officials measures were
taken to deal with the situation and the 5th Stormwind Rifles were ordered to
Darkshire. Our Herald correspondent accompanied the regiment as they made their
way to Darkshire on the 10th of March.
The regiment was marched out from Stormwind in the evening, led by Captain
Emett Beyer. He explained the regiment's role in the conflict was “To bolster
the local militia there," adding, "Our role at this point is
defensive."
As the Regiment marched through the forests of Elwynn the spirits were high.
The many songs and cheers that the 5th Rifles are known for sounded trough the
forest and put any doubt aside to whether or not the Alliance is up to the task
of protecting their homelands. With good speed and discipline the regiment
reached Darkshire just before dusk. The local populace seemed mighty relieved
that support finally had arrived.
After dismissing the troops for the night, the Alliance Herald persuaded
Captain Emett Bayer to give some more information on his thoughts on the
mission.
“How long do you expect to stay here and how will you determine upon if the threat has been dealt with or not?”
Captain Emett Beyer seemed lost in thought for a moment.
Eventually he answered: “Until the raiders are dead, or until we put the
fear of the Light into them so as to make them retreat.”
"
“You mentioned defenses, how do you plan on organising them? “
Captain Emett repilied “Regular patrols as far as the border
with Stranglethorn. We will also establish entrenchments around the town.”
Talking to some of the troops wiped out any lingering doubt about the 5th Rifles
abilities. The soldiers of the 5th Rifles strive day and night to deliver three
rounds a minute on target. Even in their spare time they seem focused on
carrying out this impressive task and training to reach their peak performance.
It was easy to observe well-disciplined men with care for their weapons and
work. I was able to have a quick chat with Recruit Thomas Wilkins. He spoke of
a life involving travel and adventure, stew and fresh water, good friends and a
jolly good time. He seemed to worry little about the Horde causing trouble.
When questioned about how they would deal with a possible new Horde attack, he
replied, "Ah, the captain eats orcs for breakfast they say."
The Captain himself would not deny nor confirm this. But it seems clear that
Darkshire is well prepared for any scurvy horde daring their way into our
homelands.
